EMPORIO ARMANI MEN'S COLLECTION Autumn/Winter 2008-2009

FROM MILAN WITH STYLE

Tastes may change but the roots of Armani style run deep: inner elegance that knows how to express an aesthetic mixing purpose with the clarity of an image. Dedicated to the young man, who is no longer a boy, the collection explores an aspect that has perhaps been ignored of late: how to adopt a style that moves from day to night, work and leisure, seamlessly.
This simple concept has provoked an evolution in the style of the jacket, with constructed shoulders and broadened lapels conveying a more mature presence. Frequently the collar, in knit, can be fastened and raised with a casual flair that emphasises a daywear sensibility.
So too, the shirt jacket with its curving lines at the front and knit collar, lined in nylon with meticulous finish and that typical Armani practicality lending meaning to every detail.
Luxury wool fabrics, soft to touch and with a fluid look for the prints that reprise tweed patterns on jersey, including bird’s eye, Prince of Wales and windowpane checks. Splendid chalk stripes with subtle contrasts, and gilded buttons with incised logo for a tuxedo effect. Completing the metropolitan mood, the essential waistcoat with lapels is paired with dropped waist trousers accented by gently tapered legs, conveying a sensual fluidity, often ending with a turn up. Velvet also breathes life into unusual shapes, like the lightly padded jacket, fastened with metal hooks, and the parka with big steel press studs instead of a zip or buttons. A single shirt style, presented in sky blue stripes or radiant white defines the season, with its positively starched and shrunk collar, set off by the small bootlace tie. In a wingtip collar version with black turned up points to match the buttons.
Varying the procession of greys, off-white and blacks, leather items come in shades of natural hide and biscuit: lightweight sheepskin cabans, a long jacket with faux fur inner, a blazer with mini-check print and a sophisticated pullover in leather and jersey.
The runway takes off with EA7 snow wear, techno clothing for fitness training and the ski slopes, but equally appropriate for snow in the city, featuring chalk blousons with marbled grey piping, lined in neoprene with hood and storm collar, teamed with light coloured trousers. This is urban sportswear exuding a sense of joie de vivre.
